Fluorescent Mouse: a genetically modified organism
They are Fluorescent mice, genetically modified organism in a secret chamber in Univ of Pecs Medical School, Hungary.
The gene of GFP(Green Fluorescent Protein) from Jelly Fish was inserted to a mouse's zygote. Each cell of the mouse has the gene which seems expressed everywhere thus all parts of their body is fluorescently active. For example, their ears, tails and eyes! Their fur is not, however, since they are not made of cells but they are already proteins e.g. keratin etc. The GFP genes are not expressed on the fur.
They are offsprings of mice created 8 years ago. The gene has been inherited to its offsprings.
A teacher mentioned that he has such creatures and I asked him to show them to me. This is the first time for me to see such a creature. Amazing.
Note: Fluorescent is necessary to be exited before it emits light as we learned in biophysics. That is why UV light(Blue light) should be applied, and then green light was emitted by the mice. Their creator said the emitted light can not be seen without special eye-glasses.
