I received a couple of reports that Debrecen asked students to apply via an agent, especially if there is an agent or representative in the applicant's country. I think this is not right attitude for them and that we have to try to change their policy by persuading them. Don't give up when you were told once, at least until you try.

Note: this kind of self-help attitude is very important once you come here in Hungary. Basically it is everywhere; once there were persuaded they change their opinion.

1. give reasons why you don't like to avoid the agents, for example,
   • they ask for too much money for their service.
   • You can not afford their service fee.
   • you can do everything by yourself. Give the reasons why you think so; eg.
     • you speak good english,
     • you have a good overseas experiences,
     • etc.
   • You think they are not reliable.
   • You feel they are fraud for money.
2. They accept direct applications from other nationalities.
3. All other Hungarian Medical schools, Semmelweis, Pecs and Szeged, accept direct applications. (note: Debrecen is different from other Hungarian Medical Schools in many aspects including this.)
4. It must be a personal choice in the first place; University should not force us to do so.
5. If somebody forces you, it might be suspected there is a unfavorable relationship between the school and the agent; such as money under the table. This is bad for everybody, especially bad for the school reputation once it was disclosed by somebody.

These are just examples. Think of what fits your situation. Also note that it would be a bad effect if you criticize them too much.
