CDH: Congenital Diaphragmtic Hernia

Pediatrics Interesting Cases

CDH is a rare congenital defect in the diaphragm. There is a missing part in diaphram which makes a "path" between abdominal and thoracic cavity. This is a life threatening condition because the interstine passes through the defect and occupies the thoracic cavity, resulting in the lung hypoplasia.

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.
Defect in Left Upper Corner. (it is rare becasuse Usually defect is seen posteriorly.)
photo is permitted by the doctor.

This photo is after pushing the intestine back to the abdominal cavity. That is why we can clearly see the defect. Now the surgeon is suturing the diaphragm to close the opening with a strong metalic suture line.

It is a thoracoscopy, as you see, i.e. a laparoscope applied in the chest cavity.
