Explant of Organs from a Brain Dead Patient

explanted kidney: examined by the general surgeon and talking to a implant coordinator
20180316: Explantation! (of kidney, liver, heart). Brain dead. 40s lady.
- Heart
A explant doctor comes and explanted. as the text book
said. Thoracic organs are explanted by implant team. Abdominal
organs are explanted, not by implant team. (due to a short time limit).
the heart is being prepared. Note: full of ice in the abdomen to cool it down, since the heart is not pumping blood any more.

- Liver
explanted by two general surgeons. I think they came
from 1st department of surgery. I have seen them a couple of
times before in other department, too. (so I guess they are
the doctors moving around even in holidays.)
Liver was found that it is fatty. so explantation was cancelled.
- kidney
- Left: seems ok and sent to the cordinator from
Eurotansplant.

- Right: it is partly blackish and the surgeon said it is
probably angiomyolipoma. Eurotransplant suggested that we
should do take histology, but the surgeon replied on the phone
that there is no pathologist due to holiday in Hungary. such a
shame... one precious kidney is ruined in that way.
- Cornea
explantations of eye balls. two young female doctors
came from ophthalmology department. (Maria utca)
- cut conjuctiva at the fornix.
- cut all the 6 ocular muscles.
- cut optic nerve.
find the eyeball.(with Cornea)
- bones. Orthopedician came from tissue bank center.(not located
in Budapest).
- PAS ancerius: ligament can be used for ant cruciate lig.
sartorius, gracilis, semi-tendinus. first find sartorius because it is easy to find.
- quadriceps tendon: the same above.
- femoral condyle(only): for catilage (mosaic implantation)
- talus: the same above.
- R: femor, tibia, fibula
Tendon: pes anceirus.
