Admission to Hungarian Medical School

I heard that Semmelweis is the best and also the most popular. It makes
sense because usually a university in the capital is the best and the
most popular.
To my
opinion, they are roughly the same; semmelweis is, I feel, a bit (20%)
better in education but you have to pay a bit more(20%). What does it
mean? Nothing is free :)
- Application
You can apply for all four univeristies(Semmelweis, Szeged, Pecs and
Debrecen) at the same time by one application and one entrance exam.
- Direct application or via-representative application
Summary: Direct application enables you to save money but you have to
do everything by yourself and in English. Via Representative on the
contrary, you can do almost everything in your own language.
I applied directly to University of Pecs and came to Pecs.
Many countries have her
own representative(s). But don't overtrust them; I hear an
representative agetns ran away after they collected money from
students and applicants.
- Entrance Examination
- Entrance Examination (2013/04/21)
Summary: I took the Entrance Exam in Seoul in South Korea on April
21st. I did very well on the written part(multiple choice questions)
but I almost failed because of interview(oral examination). Be warned
that interview part is very unique for people from written-exam
oriented countries.
- Is their entrance exam difficult?
No, it is not. Somebody
even calls it a joke. I personally don't say it was any kind of a joke but a
serious test but yeah, I can agree to some certain extent because it is
easy if you compared to other universities in developped countries. Basically
everybody can enter one of universities, I think, because of
Hungarian strategy of earning foreign currency. Thus it is not a real
screening process. But the real screening process begins once you
enters a university.
- Special Course for Norwigian: They can study 1st year of medical
course in their country. There were many students came to University
of Pecs from the 2nd year. I don't know it is the case for other
schools including Semmelweis.
- My Own Experience
- People say I came here by double directs.
First Direct: I applied directly to the University without any agents,
which is rare cases for some countries, including Japan.
Second Direct: I was accepted to the Medical School directly without the
need to go to one-year preparatory course at Mc-Daniel College in
Budapest. Going to Mcdaniel College for a year is common.
