Details of features:
- Long Run Buttery :)
7-8 hours in a normal use at 80% charged. It is
not a catalogue value, it is a real value. Catalogue value is 15 hours
or so, actually. See below for details(heavy use, etc).
- Light-Weight :)
It really is. Especially it is amazing light, if you remove the
battery. Meaning the weight is taken up almost by its long run battery.
- Tough :)
The company and its product commercial say it is 100Kg resistant. You
can stand on it, for example. It is tested with a drop test from 76cm
high. why 76cm? because it it usually around 76cm high when people
carry it, and then people accidentally drop it and that is how your PC
is broken, but not this PC because it is designed to resist the
shock. You may think that it is just the company's propaganda, but now
I have used it for years, and I can believe it.
- Fast with Highend Processor and big memory.
They use the best processor available at its release.
- Thick :(
It is how it achieves its toughness. Thick but felt it is almost air
space, seemingly for a shock absorber.
- But Expensive :(
From 1,000Euro. No, this can not be cheap. That is why they have a
clear target, otherwise they can not be successful.
Someohow it sells in Japan only, unfortunately. I think it is
comepetitive enough anywhere and that it should be sold overseas too.
I have just bought the 2nd one in Japan after I liked my first one
with really good experiences; especially Light and Tough.
I already like this 2nd machine very much.
- It runs very stable and fast. (high spec)
- It is very good to carry around. (light and tough) I carry it everyday.
- Highbernate in 5 secs normally. Back from highbanation
in 5 secs in normal use. (see below: use in a heavy use)
- It runs 6-7 hours with 80% battery in a normal use. Only 80%
charged because the maker recommends it for a longer battery
life. And there is a mode, called "economy mode", which is a fuction
that it charges the battery until 80% and then it stops charging
once it reaches 80%.
- I bought it at a good price in Japan. So it is an amazingly good cost
performance.
Client Use: It works perfectly.
- It has been Carried around by a medical student.
- Quick Hybernation in 5 secs by closing the display and quick
return from hybernation in 5 secs by opening the display.
- Connect to the Internet through WiFi. This connection is stronger
than iPhone; iPhone can not connect some AccessPoints but my PC does
:) I think it is because the PC is bigger and so is the antenna of
the Wifi.
- at Lecture
- Download lecture slides.
- show lecture slides during lectures.
- with or without power supply, but especially without it.
- At Home/Library
- Watching Movies(Lecture Movies, etc)
- Searching information; google anything :)
- Chrome: Facebook, Gmail.
- MS/Open Office: Making documents, reports, etc.
- Modifying photos and figures, etc.
Server Use: I gave a try to use a Virtual Machine,
VirtualBox with Linux, Ubuntu deistribution.
- Even VM with Linux + X window runs in a good enough speed.
- Battery life is shortened to 5-6 hours if you use the VM. It is
understandable, though. because VM runs a guest OS and its application on
the host OS and thus it consumes battery. comsumption also by
cooling fan; the VM run and Fan is obviously correlated, once VM
starts so does the fan, sometimes vigorously.
- Hybernation takes 30 secs due to more memory comsumption.
- Fast enough to run apache httpd server on the VM and Firefox to
debug my own website.
Although The performance decreased due to a Guest OS, This is really
amazing!
I can develop all the website on the
VM and Linux. Developing a website on windows is far less efficient because
there is no symbolic link in windows, no cgi, etc. (especially I am
studying medicine abroad, I don't have much physical space for 2ndary
machine nor I don't have much time to switch the native OSes everytime.)
