Disassemble Adata HV620S 2TB

Summary: ADATA HV620S 2TB external USB drive contains a Seagate Drive with a slim 2.5 HDD, more slim than noraml. Thus if your intention is exhange HDD of your laptop PC, be warned since it may not just-fit your laptop. It is smaller thus you can put it but you may have a wobbling space, which may be not good for your HDD; remember it spins fast inside and if your hdd is not stable the axis is tilt and it might be broken earlier.

My purpose is exchange internal HDD of my lovely laptop: Panasonic Let's note(tough note). It is a bit worry some.

It contatins a Seagate Drive: ST2000LM007. Probably this is the model number. See the photo below.

  1. Probably "S" of the last letter of the model code means Seagate. (Adata HV100 contained a Toshiba.)
  2. They change their internal drive, because of the finantial problem occured in Toshiba.

The paper package says that it is slim: 11.5mm. And the internal disk is also slim than normal.

the one with larger blue surface is a Toshiba, and the other with smaller blue surface is a Seagate. Seagate has a larger capacity but a slim body.

There are some youtube movies about disassembling USB external HDD with minus screw drivers. But my advice is just use a guitar pick instead of a minus driver to save the external package. A minus driver damages your external package if you mind it. see tips.
